With funding from EBRD, we have been retained by FIN-SMART, a roundtable partnership between the IMO and major IFIs, to carry out a mapping for investment needs, risks and barriers to financing maritime decarbonisation in line with the IMO (initial) GHG Strategy. By incorporating regulatory, market and technological parameters into an asset portfolio framework, we have identified 3 sets of investment strategies by investment intensity, time horizon, and decarbonisation impact. The study also found that existing financing instruments are largely incompatible to the risk-profile and investment scale to decarbonise the industry, especially for shore based and bunkering facilities . Since then, we have carried out over 12 feasibility, financing and evaluation projects on port and maritime decarbonisation, either for sector assets or as part of broad industrial and supply chain decarbonisation.
